How to Use Twitter for Small Business

advertise on twitter

Over the last five years, Twitter has become the largest communication platform on the internet, where information can spread like wildfire. Being the heartbeat of  cyberspace, Twitter is a great way to interact with family, relatives, friends and acquaintances. Unfortunately, a lot of businesses are not aware that they can also use Twitter as a marketing tool to promote their products and services as well as interact with their potential clients and customers.

Advertisers can also pay to place their ads on Twitter via Promoted Tweets, Promoted Trends, or Promoted Accounts. These paid advertisements are basically ordinary tweets that can be favorited, retweeted, replied to, and others. The advertisers need to pay Twitter to endorse those tweets or place it on top of the list of trending topics to stimulate further conversation.

  • Promoted Tweets –When supporting a tweet, users will see the tweet when they look for one of the keywords connected to the tweet. Promoted tweets are based on Cost-Per-Engagement (CPE) so advertisers are charged only when a user retweets, replies or clicks on the Promoted Tweet. Promoted Tweets extends the reach of the tweets to a larger audience and retweeted impressions do not cost anything.
  • Promoted Trends – Promoted Trends provide enormous advertising exposure by introducing a trending topic and feature it by placing at the top of the Trending Topics section. Tweeters who will click on the trend related to a business advertisement will be directed to the list of tweets along with the promotion at the top of the timeline.
  • Promoted Account –  Having a Promoted Account increases the number of followers of a business by using Twitter’s recommendation engine and highlights the business profile to Twitter users who will find it interesting.

Twitter advertising has been around for some time now but only a few were brave enough to test the waters. Twitter has innovated self-promotion and online advertising by making an issue or a subject matter popular and continue the popularity for several minutes, or even hours. This feature is important for small businesses to easily integrate their advertising campaign with local and national trends.

Twitter also influenced mobile platforms to establish the success of its new advertising product. Advertisers will not make the cut by merely inserting inline text advertisements; hence, they learned how to incorporate ads with other areas of the various mobile applications. Furthermore, small businesses aim their marketing only on nearby areas within their business location.

Business owners are always on the go; therefore, Twitter created a simple and fast online advertising platform to save time and energy. Twitter’s Promoted Tweets also created value and relevance by providing significant information before a customer raises the question.

The real-time communication on Twitter holds incredible promises for advertisers and marketers as long as the advertising application can effectively utilize its power to make relevant and timely advertisements. Unfortunately at this time, only large businesses can afford Twitter advertising and small business owners and advertisers remain on the earned and preserved side of the equation.
